How to shutdown computer without installing updates windows 7


















There are plenty of times when updates are ready but i want the computer off and ready to move. I hate having to wait for updates when i don't even tell it to do them. Was this reply helpful? Don't tell me we have gone backward. Somebody told me there is some tweak we can do on the registry and I forgot. When I tried long time ago, it didn't seem to work. Go to Windows 8 where it will tell you that you have 48 hours to reboot after an auto update, otherwise, Win 8 will force a reboot to complete the updates.

This is good and this is what I am looking for. If the shutdown button from the Start menu would do the same then it would be fantastic. Is there any tweak we can do to achieve it. I don't do auto-updates on Win 8 or 7, as I want to control what comes to the machine, like drivers from MS that can take out the functionality of a device when Windows update updated the driver.

I have been burnt in that scenario in the past. I'll go to the manufacture that has the driver for their device and update a driver from their site than to let Windows Update update a driver. What do you mean that drivers from MS can take out the functionality of a device?

Don't Microsoft get their source from the manufacturer? By the way, auto-update is only for MS products. Updates for other manufacturers are optional which means we have to select them before they would be applied. As far as I know, you need to use these two options as the workaround.
