Adobe premier editing

Sorry for my ignorance, but how would I configure a 10 gbps connection? Is it a piece of hardware? So could I work with 3 editors using only 2 ports by using a splitter or something like that? I understand nevertheless than working straight from the server would be possible, right? Since we have the issue of having to mirror drives, by importing to two diffrent wokstations, and since we need to edit right after ingesting the server would be a solution for agility and organization.

I even contacted Synology and Qnap and they cannot provide me with any proper feedback on this matter. These questions are far too extensive to be answered via a forum. You need to do some homework. You connect them to a switch which connects to the server. So, Google:. Give the folks at KeyCode Media in Burbank a call. They can help you or help you find someone who can. Thank you very much, best regards. Many outputs, usb c, thunderbolt… thank you.

Both make RAIDs and software, both use hard disks made by other companies. Both are good choices. QNAP is more like Windows, good, solid, lots of apps, but more tweakable. If you like to tweak, get QNAP. I decided on Synology and am happy with my choice. It is designed for RAIDs where your drives are different sizes, or you plan to add drives at different times.

I use RAID 5 along with backup storage. The problem is that now people at Synology help support tells me I need to change the IP whether I connect tethered or via Wifi. This is a big downstep for me as I thought of working both ways constantly.

I do this every day. Then, put Wifi just below it. If an Ethernet cable is attached to your computer, your system will use that high-speed connection.

If not, it will use Wifi. If you are using WiFi, you are not accessing the maximum speed of even 1 Gb Ethernet. Getting a 10 Gig connection will do nothing to enhance your WiFi work. There are lots of variations. Getting a 10 G port on the Server will only benefit you IF you also have a 10 G data switch, and Cat 6 or 6e cabling, and a 10 Gb port on your computer. In other words, this is a bigger deal than you might think.

This rules out most multicam editing and most 4K editing. I went from totally outsider to almost an expert now, haha. Just a question, how do you set up the switch? Also, could you tell me what cameras do you use?

Could you edit Sony FS5 4k footage out of 1gbe? Configuring a switch is far too complex a subject for a simple reply. It all depends upon the switch and its capabilities. Every device has its own IP address which is assigned by the router.

This is generally the box you use to connect to the Internet, though, in bigger networks, it is built into the switch. For bandwidth, assume that all video streams use the largest codec. Great article. Do you have any thoughts for a cost-effective workflow workaround to provide remote loggers, editors access to the raw media on servers and drives without breaking the bank account? CATDV great cataloging product can get expensive for the little guy.

I am curious about how personal cloud eg. WD MyCloud or similar might fit in — if at all? Backblaze mentioned in your article might also be an interesting integration. Fast internet connection a must, naturally. Building a home-brew remote collaboration environment is significantly difficult. Bandwidth, security, scalability and multi-user support are all non-trivial. Local collaboration is MUCH easier.

Take a look at offerings from Frame. Thanks so much for your articles — always helpful. Once again thanks for your generosity over the years. The default behavior for Premiere is to only copy links, not media. When you do, it will make a copy of all imported media into your project folder. Hi Larry, very helpful article! Quick question, so do you have multiple editors working directly from the NAS without issue?

Better, though, is if you can connect both computers and servers using 10 Gb Ethernet. This allows data rates up to 1. Again, depending upon codecs, frame size and frame rate.

But, in general, it is easily possible. If you are connecting via Gigabit Ethernet, either one is fine. My main system is ext4, my backup is Btrfs. Larry, Hi and thank you for this great article. We have 3 video editors in our small shop. The editors are using Adobe Premiere cloud based software. Any thoughts you could share? I never truly understood how all the stuff worked together until I read your article Extremely well written in my humble opinion.

Thank you, Tim. Thanks for your kind words. Both would use your Synology quite well. Your email address will not be published. Access over 1, on-demand video editing courses. Become a member of our Video Training Library today! May 21, at am. Larry says:. July 31, at pm. Richard: Hmm…. Erik says:. March 30, at am. That, however, does not mean your problems are any less frustrating. October 6, at am. Thank you very much, Pablo.

October 7, at am. Pablo: Thanks for writing. October 9, at am. What is a port aggregation? Can I buy it aside?

What is a switch? I was hoping to connect the drive straight to the computers. Thank you very much! Pablo: These questions are far too extensive to be answered via a forum. Pablo says:. Within minutes, even a new user can edit media projects like a pro. Import footage from virtually any device. Premiere can support most types of video coding, from mobile phones to digital cameras. Apply effects and play around with different tools while a clip is in the media bin. Edit it once and use it as much as you want throughout the footage.

Speed up the process by letting Premiere do the work for you. Their Motion Graphics template allows you to create infographics without slaving over the footage for hours. Drag spreadsheets with your project information into a template and let the software create a visualization for you.

Take your project on-the-go and continue editing outside of your workspace. This software can be downloaded on the desktop with systems operating on Linux, Windows, and macOS. Adobe Premiere is simple enough for beginners and detailed enough for professional video editors. Improve your video quality and standards with one app.

Adobe Premiere is an impressive and unmatchable tool for editing videos. Experienced editors use keyboard shortcuts to accelerate their work so they can edit as fast as they think. Premiere Pro has a deep set of keyboard shortcuts, but you can customize them to fit your own needs. This brings up an overview the keyboard layout. From here you can remap the keyboard using existing presets, or your own custom shortcuts. You map keys to the entire application or designate specific different panels, so that the same shortcuts can work differently in different workspaces.

Like any craft, the key to efficient editing is practice. To conclude this article, here are the full quotes from the editors we spoke with, offering more detail and insight into how you can edit faster in Premiere Pro.

From a busy daily news room to a long-form scripted TV show, it caters perfectly to a variety of demanding environments.

Doing color and audio mix inside the editing program makes it a lot faster than other programs by virtue of the fact that we don't have to export, transfer, and ingest the edit into other post finishing programs. That can take up to a day depending on the length of the project and complexity.

It's also a huge time saver if the editor wants to make revisions. No need to roundtrip again to other programs. Finishing in Premiere also allows us the benefit of exporting final deliveries directly from our edit sequence timelines. Skipping the need for an online post process entirely. The Essential Sound Panel and its ability to automatically level and treat audio based on the type of source is a huge time saver for roughing out edits and getting a broadcast legal mix while working on the cut.

With it, we created a robust system of templates and workflows that empower teams of editors and artists to pass project files back and forth seamlessly throughout the day, while maintaining a high level of quality control as they work. After editing on Premiere Pro for the last 14 years, I have a created a custom workflow that I can quantify as being faster and more efficient than other NLEs. I would love an editing challenge against any combatants to test Premiere Pro against any other option in a real-world situation.

If hypothetically, me and two other editors on competing systems were given five hours of dailies from one day of a feature film average day of filming and were asked to log, organize and cut the scenes from those five hours…I will easily beat them in organization and cut scenes.

Thomas Bergman is an editor, cinematographer, and colorist and is a co-founder of Silbersalz Film, based in Stuttgart, Germany. Premiere Pro's customizability allows me to work faster.

It takes time to set up, save, test, and refine these customizations, but once my keyboard, panel settings and preferences are dialed-in -- I don't have to think about what I'm doing, I just do it. All of these features, not to mention Dynamic Linking to After Effects and access to Motion Graphics Templates, can result in meeting tight deadlines with great looking sequences -- instead of delivering "acceptably professional" cuts that clearly could have been much better if we had more time.

Master clips can be viewed as large thumbnails in a bin where you can mark IN to OUT points and edit right from that bin to a timeline. If you create Selects Sequences, you can then edit from those sequences using the Pancake Timeline method.

And best of all you can open those Pancake Timelines in the Source monitor and view that Source Sequence in a Timeline. But you can also use keyboard shortcuts to trim in the timeline in a lot of different ways. Audio mixing has a lot of options as well.

The Essential Sound panel is a fast way to get a lot of things done without having to know too much about the whole process. Finally, you can send your mix over to Adobe Audition for the ultimate high-end mixing experience. Those are three of my favorite places where you have multiple options for how you want to work in Adobe Premiere Pro.
